Mudge Bay Environmental is owned and operated by Janice Christian, M. Sc. We are a boutique environmental consulting firm based in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. We provide personalized, results-driven, expert guidance to individuals, municipalities, Indigenous organizations, and private sector clients across Northern Ontario.

Our Founder
Janice holds a Master of Science in Biology and is a proud member of the Canadian Society of Environmental Biologists. With extensive experience in both public and private sectors—including over 15 years in government—Janice brings a balanced, insightful perspective to every project. Her strong grasp of regulatory frameworks, paired with a practical understanding of ecological systems, allows her to deliver solutions that are both compliant and sustainable.
Mudge Bay
A Place Close to My Heart
My company is named after a place that holds a special place in my heart. My family bought property in Kagawong on Manitoulin Island about 50 years ago. The village of Kagawong is on the shores of Mudge Bay. Throughout my childhood, summers were spent there.
The photo on the left was taken from our porch on a beautiful winter day.
Kagawong is said to mean "Where mist rises from falling waters".
Bridal Veil Falls, shown on the left, is in Kagawong.
Manitoulin Island
Manitoulin Island is the largest freshwater island in the world. It is located in the northwestern part of Lake Huron.
